About J-Serve

Finding God's Purpose Through Serving a Year at J-Serve

Are you feeling like you have no clear direction for next year? Are you wondering what your place is in this world? Do you wonder what God's plan for your life is? If any of these questions resonate with you, then J-Serve may be the answer for you!

In today's world, students are questioning the value of a college degree. They are finding it harder to decide what they want to do or be in this world. That's where J-Serve steps in to provide a one-year experience that will assist you in discovering how God wired you and designed you for life. During the course of this year, you will grow in your faith, develop a heart for service, and gain professional and practical skills necessary to succeed in today's world.

It's totally worthwhile to take a year to explore all that you can be. This one year will not only be invaluable and effective for the rest of your life, but it will start you on the right path as you enter your young adult years.

J-Serve is a one-year program for post-high school and college-aged students.

Through the J-Serve Program, you will...

  • Learn to grow and own your personal walk with Jesus through intentional spiritual instruction and mentoring.
  • Find and develop your passion and purpose for life as you intentionally pursue your part in God's redemptive and restorative story in this world.
  • Develop leadership skills and a big picture of ministry while serving through a variety of hands-on ministry experiences with children, teens and adults.

"J-Serve has taught me that without faith we cannot deepen our relationship with the Lord and that everyday I must put my trust in the Lord and surrender everything unto Him." -- Rose (a J-Serve student)

J-Serve exists in two phases:

Phase 1:

  • Begins in mid-August and continues through May
  • The bulk of the teaching, service and ministry opportunities takes place
  • The goal of this time is to develop, learn, engage and grow through the variety of hands-on ministry and service experiences.

Phase 2:

  • The summer service practicum (June through August)
  • Apply for and be placed alongside the rest of the Joy El "summer staff" in a variety of ministry positions
  • The goal of this time is to put in practice the technical and ministry skills that you have developed over the year in a familiar environment

It's totally worthwhile to take a year to explore all that you can be. This one year will not only be invaluable and effective for the rest of your life, but it will start you on the right path as you enter your young adult years.
